But why else should you choose a Rheem Hybrid Water Heater?

What People Are Saying?

No Rheem hybrid water heater review would be complete without knowing what customers have to say about the product.

The majority of people who have purchased a Rheem hybrid water heater are highly satisfied. They rave about the heater’s performance and energy efficiency.

Many appreciate how easy it is to use the smartphone app with the heater. But most of all customers love their lower energy bills since they installed the unit in their home.

Stiebel Elt ron Accelera E Heat Pump Water Heater

Features:

  • Heat Pump Water Heaters, not ‘’hybrids”
  • Designed to provide comfort plus the lowest possible energy costs
  • Reduces hot water costs by up to 80%
  • Engineered in Germany, Stiebel Eltron heat pump water heaters have been the largest seller in Europe for over 30 years
  • Backed by a 1o-year warranty

At Stiebel Eltron, the main goal is to provide energy efficiency in addition to comfort. [And, of course, engineering and manufacturing excellence.]

This kind of heat pump water heaters is designed from the ground up to rely on the heat pump, not on the backup element. We don’t call the Accelera heat pump water heaters “hybrids.” They’re not.

The tanks are large because large is the best for a heat pump water heater. Even a “50-gallon” heat pump water heater is actually 58 gallons. Large capacity means the water you are using, as much as possible, was heated the most efficient way — with the heat pump.

The tanks are super-insulated because minimizing standby losses means less energy is wasted. In order to deliver all the energy savings a heat pump water heater can, in addition to all the hot water comfort it holds, it makes no sense to skimp on the insulation and increase energy consumption.

A single resistance element is used for backup water heating during times of high demand.  The single booster element is located in the most efficient place — at the very top of the tank because that’s where the hot water is drawn from.

So, These are not “hybrids,” They are Stiebel Eltron heat pump water heaters

With decades of heat pump experience, it has been obvious to us that a heat pump water heater ought to make hot water with the heat pump, and not with a backup element. This simple solution seems to have escaped others. Yet it has made our heat pump water heater the largest seller in Europe for over 30 years.

Heat pump water heating technology means the amount of energy needed to heat water is greatly reduced compared to conventional water heaters. Until now, the best “high efficiency” water heaters only approach making the equivalent of 1 watt of hot water for every watt of energy they consume. Heat pump water heater technology redefines water heater efficiency. For every watt, an Accelera’s compressor and fan uses, the equivalent of 3-5 watts of hot water are generated.

In warm climates, an Accelera® is placed either in the garage, where it uses the heat from the outside air to make hot water or inside the house, where it helps with the air conditioning load. In cooler climates, the unit is typically placed in the basement where it also acts as a dehumidifier. You get hot water at a discount plus a drier basement as well.

What Is the Difference Between “Hybrid” Water Heaters And Accelera Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat Pump Mode

“Hybrid” Water Heater:

In the case of Hybrid Water Heaters, the most efficient mode provides the greatest savings they are capable of. The water heater operates only with the heat pump. “Hybrids” must be set to the correct mode in order to either save energy or provide comfort.

Accelera Heat Pump Water Heater:

Accelera is engineered to satisfy 90% of hot water needs through the use of the heat pump alone. In cases of high demand, one specially designed electric ‘’booster” element is located at the very top of the tank. Positioned near the hot water draw point, the element has been designed and engineered to run as little as possible so that comfort is maintained and savings maximized.

Hybrid Mode

“Hybrid” Water Heater:

Two standard electric elements activate for fast water temperature recovery. The system allows the heat pump to work once demand has been met via electric elements.

Accelera Heat Pump Water Heater:

Accelera is designed to satisfy hot water needs without having to pick a setting. There is nothing to remember to choose in order to have both comfort and savings.

High Demand Mode

“Hybrid” Water Heater:

Two standard electric elements activate sooner and stay no longer than in their ‘’hybrid” mode.

Accelera Heat Pump Water Heater:

Accelera is engineered to work as a harmonious whole to offer comfort and savings without having to ask, “what setting do I need to choose today?” IN cases of extraordinarily high demand the Accelera 220 E has a user-accessible booster function that will engage the booster element.

Standard Mode

“Hybrid” Water Heater:

The heat pump is disabled and, just like a standard electric tank, two electric elements heat the water. “Hybrids don’t have active defrost and must enable this mode so the evaporator can defrost. This mode is also selected if the heat pump fails.

Accelera Heat Pump Water Heater:

They engineered the Accelera so the heat pump doesn’t need to be disabled for a defrost cycle. They also engineered for a heat pump water heater if you’re just going to end up with a standard electric tank?

Vacation Mode

“Hybrid” Water Heater:

The water heater maintains a very low temperature in the tank then reheats the water the day before you return.

Accelera Heat Pump Water Heater:

Our super-insulated tank keeps water hot in an Accelera during a 2-week vacation for less than $4. No one has to worry if vacation mode was set to wake up on the correct day.

The Stiebel Eltron Accelera E Heat Pump Water Heater is not a “hybrid” water heater but operates on the same heat pump method as hybrid models. The difference is that this water heater works on “hybrid” mode all the time, meaning you don’t have to choose the setting like on other models.

However, this German-made water heater is the most expensive of those listed here — almost twice the price. In addition, it is not as energy efficient as the other models coming in with a 3.05 UEF rating.

It also has an automatic booster mode which will detect high usage and adjust accordingly. In fact, there are no operation modes available with this 58-gallon tank water heater. And the available functions it does have are controlled by an LED interface on the tank body.

Home Depot users give this water heater 4.2 out of 5 stars. This product has not been rated on Amazon or the manufacturer’s website.

Brief About Electric Water Heaters

For some time now, conventional electric water heaters have been the right choice. Certainly, you have a fair number of worthwhile advantages. They provide inexpensive maintenance fees and an advance charge which makes them desirable.

Some electronic boilers, however, have greater energy expenses monthly. That’s why they create more energy For home heating water than its hybrid fellows. The money spent on electric tank purchases might thus be spent on expensive monthly expenses at a later date.

Furthermore, they might not be the greatest solution in places susceptible to power outages. Your heater will not heat water and hence will cause discomfort.

Traditional electric water heaters Keep in their storage tank up to 80 gallons of hot water. Whenever the boiler is utilized, ice water loads up to the pre-set temperature from the bottom of the tank. This guarantees that the tank always has hot water but also increases the use of power.

Whereas hybrid heating systems are often made in small dimensions like 30 or 50 gallons, Rheem manufactured its hybrid method in three capacity options. You may select the same volume of hot water as your appropriate for determining for 50, 65, and 80-gallon units.

  1. i’ve had The Rheem Performance Platinum Electric Hybrid Water Heater installed for approximately 8 months. It was installed in an addition to the house which has the cloths washer, a shower and 2 vanities with hot and cold water. The problem is we never know if we are going to have hot water available. The shower works the best when I take a night time shower. plenty of hot water without issue. My wife takes a morning shower and as often as not, the hot water is slightly warm at best. The vanities can run the hot water for several minutes and never get more than slightly warm. Sometimes the hot water can be turned off and turned on in about a minute and we’ve got hot water! Turn it off and wait a minute and we’re back to warm water. I’m trying to contact the Rheem service but I’ve waited and waited for a tech to come on to talk without success. I’ve just about reached the point to replace the hot water heater with the old reliable electric hot water heater.
