The Keurig coffee machines have gained a lot of popularity over the time mostly because of its swiftness.
You can easily make a cup of great coffee just by pressing a button. However, it is necessary to clean and maintain your filter so that it continues to give the unique taste to your coffee.
This is why it is imperative to have a sound knowledge about how you can change the water filter in the Keurig 2.0.
This specific unit like all the other models is known to have a particular level of hardness when the water is used for making coffee.
To replace the filter, you have to remove your old filter first.
Ensure that you soak your new filter before it is inserted into the machine.
To understand how you can replace the water filter, follow the following steps.
01. Remove the Old Filter
In order to remove the filter that is already present in the model, you have to open the top of the water reservoir.
Normally, this water reservoir will be located on the left side of the coffee machine. Soon as you open this, you will get easy access to your water filter.
Now, you have to pull out this filter unit.
There is a handle on the upper side of the filter holder. You have to grasp this handle firmly and pull this out of the system’s water reservoir.
As soon as the filter unit is out, you have to open this filter holder and discard the filter.
For doing this, you can use the index finger and the thumb to pinch the holder placed at the bottom of your filter unit.
Once the old filter is pulled out, you can throw this away in the trash can.
02. Purchase a New Filter
The water filters for the Keurig 2.0 are not available for sale individually. This is why you have to purchase a complete set.
They are normally sold in the groups of 6 or 12. These water filters are available from the major retailers that include Walmart and Amazon.
You have to keep in mind that the filter sets can be a little expensive.
03. Soak the Filter in Water
Before the new filter is installed, you have to soak it in water for at least 5 or 10 minutes.
The filter needs to absorb water before it is installed. For doing this, you have to fill a bowl with water, and then, you have to drop your filter.
Ensure that it is submerged in the water when it is soaking.
You will see that the filter starts floating initially, but as soon as it starts absorbing water, it will sink and go to the bottom of your bowl in around 10 minutes.
04. Rinse the Filter
To get the best results, you have to rinse the water filter with tap water after you have soaked it for 10 minutes.
Make sure that the tap water has a medium flow and you are rinsing the filter for around 60 seconds.
05. Rinsing The Filter Holder
There are chances that the lower filter holder may have a thin layer of mesh on the bottom side.
Make sure that you rinse this portion of the filter holder for removing impurities and dirt that had accumulated when it was being used. Rinse properly to ensure that all the mesh is removed.
06. Replace the Water Filter in the Filter Unit
After you have finished the process of soaking and rinsing the filter and its lower filter holder, it is time for you to replace this filter into the housing unit.
You have to slide your new filter into this filter holder and ensure that the rounded side of the filter faces up.
Now, you have to set your lower filter holder in its proper place below the filter.
The mesh bottom should cover the bottom of your fabric filter.
After this has been done, you have to snap both the sides of your filter holder to ensure that it is in a proper place around your filter.
07. Turn the Replacement Dial
The replacement dial is situated on the top of the handle of your filter replacement unit. It is small in size, and you will find a list of numbers from 1 to 12.
All these numbers stand for the twelve months of the year.
You have to twist your dial in a clockwise direction until you see the indicator pointing to 2 months ahead of the month when you are replacing the filter.
For example, if it is October, you can set your replacement dial to 12, which is December.
Keep in mind that you have to set this reminder manually.
08. Set the Keurig 2.0 to Remind about the Filter Change
There is a setting which helps in alerting you when it is time to change the filter after two months.
If you have already turned your replacement dial, you can also turn the reminder On with the help of the electronic menu.
You have to navigate to the “Settings” option and select the “Water Filter Reminder”.
Next, you have to select “Enable”. Remember that the models that are prior to this model do not have the electronic reminder function.
09. Put the Water Filter into the Reservoir
Finally, you have to put the filter back into the reservoir after assembling the filter unit.
The external portion of the water filter holder will get back in place when you press it down firmly to the bottom of your reservoir.
In case if it does not, it is necessary to see if the grooves have been properly aligned on the water reservoir’s floor.
Done and dusted!
If you follow all of these 9 steps properly, you can replace the water filter of your Keurig 2.0 without any added difficulties. Best of luck trying!
